Gravity in the Grain: An Origin Story Concluded
For the life of me, I can’t remember why I wrote my name on a piece of rice all those years ago. I think it was a kit and I didn’t even follow the directions. To that end, I believe there are intuitive moments in life where we have to diverge from the obvious path to find the clarity that eludes us.
When I write or even line up a subject for a shot, I give myself the permission to start small: abandon the desire for perfection that often stalls my progress and look to a focal point, a detail, to set things in motion. Free-word associations for writing or, in the case of photography, shoot the fork on the plate instead of the pie. Where is it written that the process can’t be fun, as long as the activity informs productivity? Much like that grain of rice, I step away then return with a simplified, renewed objective.
In life, focus is a luxury and you should snatch it where you can! I use writing and product photography as examples but tiny revisions to how you tackle everyday tasks can tame the self-doubt that brings your creative and professional stride to a grinding halt.
Which brings me to this website.
In these pages you’ll find hints...grains of guidance- if you will-to inform, entertain and maybe inspire the steps you take. A big believer in demystifying the prevalent subjects we boldly discuss but secretly scratch our heads about, topics will have a dynamic range: from e-commerce and product photography to resume writing and of course, personal branding.
The journey to find the thing you love in life may take you longer than expected but that elating and occasionally confounding ride is uniquely yours. No matter the resources you enlist, I hope you discover the clarity and courage to use it.
