Gravity in the Grains: An Origin Story Cont'd

You didn't hit 'the wall.' You built it!

You didn't hit 'the wall.' You built it!

Every day you venture out into the world you are, essentially, a product under a magnifying glass, analyzed by the people you meet.  Hard to admit, we can’t control every aspect of what happens around us but we do have experience to guide our feet through the dizzying labyrinth that is family, career and personal discovery.  We all want to realize our potential and while the effort to attain success can be arduous, very little can deter us from our path…most of the time, anyway. There’s no shame in doing what you know. If you do it well- I mean really well- it will likely parlay to opportunities for professional growth you always knew existed but were perhaps too afraid to pursue. Truth be told, we often see success through the eyes of others so it’s no wonder we struggle to bring our own goals into focus.  There’s nothing more frustrating than conceding to a plan gone awry because you were standing in your own way.

Odd to imagine, the fear of success-not failure- can create self-defeating patterns of complacency and obstruct the path we plot for ourselves.  An established brand would never suffer such pitfalls, we tell ourselves, and continue to struggle to see our success in a larger, more dynamic context.

There is purpose in the things we invest ourselves to wholeheartedly and we are a source of value. We might not get a billboard but the genius we see in the brands we admire had a beginning that was modest and more relatable than we care to realize. You have to start somewhere.

So take a moment. Gather your mental mettle and check yourself. Seriously.

And let’s be honest, you know you had it coming.
