Spring Cleaning: For the Living Space and Sanity

Well into the spring now, you might be feeling a little anxious.  The old bones feel a bit creaky from the winter months.  You definitely feel the urge to make things happen but your actions are a little… clumsy. Disoriented much? And it manifests in the little things.

Tell me if this sounds familiar.

On the Go

Driving along, the blazing sun beats down on the car window so you take your blazer off. Exit said toaster oven on wheels and suddenly you’re swept up by brisk winds that sucker punch you against the driver side door! Instinctively you hug your blazer like Linus from The Peanuts. The bitter cold whips about and it takes all your willpower not to retreat to the toasty embrace of your car. You lament for the mornings where time was your greatest foe. Once again, you’re trapped in a seemingly pleasant day that can’t make up its mind.

Do you need a blazer or not!

Do you need a blazer or not!

At the Office

Rushing from floor to floor, you watch the calendar, grab that bagel— in anticipation of lunch that will never come—with the lofty goal to just get there on time.

Bagel clenched in teeth, flushed fingers of your right hand cradling folders while the other quickly fastens that blazer, you book it to a meeting.  Which meeting? No earthly clue but that’s why you grab every folder on your desk as a fail-safe plan. While you manage to inadvertently work out a neglected bicep, crowbarring three heavy doors open from the elevator bank to the conference room, the blazer buttoned on the fly has seen better days.  You don’t learn as much until your boss focuses his laser pointer on your bungle-buttoned blazer, in a crowded room of amused colleagues.

So…Truth be told, the mental forecast for most days feels foggy at best and it’s slowly driving you nuts. And you do your best to cope with this and the demands of the day.

I feel your pain. Ok. Moment has past.

Members of The Collective: It’s time to sidestep mental blocks that will inevitably pop up in a day, at the worst possible times. And the articles in this Mini G|I|G Series can help!

If the spring is good for anything it’s giving you chores. Did I say chores? Dirty word, isn’t it? Strike that!  I meant chances. Must have sat in my car too long today. Let me take another crack at the last sentence.

If the spring is good for anything it’s giving you chances to reclaim the control you often relinquish at the first sign of discomfort and conflict.  I’m a firm believer in second chances. And if the spring lives up to its reputation for redemption, you’ll see plenty.

I’m only one person. You fret.

You know what to do and begrudgingly see tasks through. Most of the time.

Saturday. I’ll take the whole day to clean the garage. You compromise.

Scratch that-the garbage disposal is on the fritz and the repairman still won’t answer his phone. Time to track him down! You fume.

Planning for the day you have every intention of carrying out your intended goals. How confounding is it that life has a way of stepping in and drop kicking your good intentions by the wayside?
